Darren Austin

Darren initially joined our team at Alphington Sports Medicine in 2013. Prior to being a Physiotherapist Darren completed a Degree in Exercise & Sport Science and worked as a Strength & Conditioning Coach. He then completed his Degree in Physiotherapy with Honours, and has also completed his Masters of Sports Physiotherapy.

He is currently working full-time as a Senior Physiotherapist in the AFL with Geelong Football Club and played an instrumental part of their premiership winning team in 2022. Previously, Darren has worked as the Head Physiotherapist for the Australian Volleyball Team, Victorian Fury Netball Team, the Victoria Bushranger’s Cricket team and Coburg Tigers in the VFL. He has also worked as a Physiotherapist at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, as well as at orthopaedic hospitals and overseas in London.

As a Physiotherapist Darren’s special areas of interest include ACL and other knee related injuries and their rehabilitation, tendon injuries, the management of back pain, muscle injuries/tears, as well as management to return to high level sport. Given his background, Darren is a big believer in the importance of exercise for the rehabilitation of injuries and as well as holistic approach to injuries.

Memberships: Australian Physiotherapy Association, Sports Physiotherapy Association, Sports Medicine Australia, AFL Physio Association, IFSPT (International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy).

Availability: Tuesdays (3-6pm), Thursdays (10am-2.30pm).
