Work has now finished up for the year, but things are looking great in the front (original section) and upstairs at the back (new section) of the building.

Work has now finished up for the year, but things are looking great in the front (original section) and upstairs at the back (new section) of the building.

The festive season is fast approaching and it’s been a challenging year for everyone, so we wanted to take a moment to say:
Merry Christmas – here’s to happier and healthier times for all in 2022!

We’ve recently added two new pieces of equipment to our Exercise + Rehabilitation Area – The ForceFrame and the NordBoard.
Our Physiotherapists can use these to test the upper and lower body strength of a patient – including hip, knee, shoulder, ankle, hamstring and neck muscle groups.

These crispy, chewy parcels of salmon will be a guaranteed crowd favourite at your next summer gathering.
You can even cook the salmon the day before to save yourself time.

With the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season now complete, we chatted with Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic’s Sport & Exercise Medicine Registrar Dr Carlee Van Dyk about her involvement with the Collingwood Magpies, and the Australian Diamonds Netball team.

With the 2021 AFL season now complete, we chatted with Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic Podiatrist Emma Poynton about her involvement with the Western Bulldogs Football Club.

Did you know that was it this week way back in 1981 that Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic first opened its doors!
Established by Peter and Katherine Harcourt (both still current Directors), then later joined by Jill Cook and Steve Evans (dec.), the original Clinic was in Wingrove Street, near Alphington station. It offered only Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy. At the time, Sports Medicine barely existed as a discipline and there were no guidelines as to how it should be done. Alphington was a trail blazer!

With the 2021 AFL season now complete, we chatted with one of our Massage Therapists, Brooke Skaf, about her involvement in the AFL with the Carlton Football Club (Blues).

Dr Gaylene McKay has been the Opals (Australian Women’s Basketball Team) Physiotherapist for 7 years and travelled with them many times for camps and tournaments. But this year she had the privilege of supporting them in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics!
Now that she’s back in Australia we asked her to spend some of her hotel quarantine time telling us a bit about the experience . . . .

Banana bread is so 2020.
Whether you’ve run out of things to bake during lockdown or you’re looking for an activity to keep the kids busy (and off their screens), you must give these muffins a try.

While Dr Gaylene McKay, our Managing Director and the Lead Physiotherapist for the Opals, is now back in Australia and in quarantine, she did manage to send through a few last pics from her time at the Olympics.

More great photos from the Olympics thanks to Alphington Sports Medicine’s Managing Director & Opals Lead Physiotherapist, Dr Gaylene McKay.

APA titled Sports Physiotherapist and Alphington Sports Medicine’s Managing Director, Dr Gaylene McKay, is currently in Tokyo for the Olympics.
As Lead Physiotherapist for the Opals (Australia’s Women’s Basketball Team) she’ll be doing her best to ensure all players are at peak fitness for each game.

DON’T CUT CARBS!
It’s not fun and it NEVER lasts. Rather than thinking about what you need to eliminate from your diet, think about what you can INCLUDE.

Add this one to your meatless Monday collection. Ingredients can be prepared ahead of time so all you need to do is build your taco to your heart’s desire and enjoy!

Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic’s Managing Director Dr Gaylene McKay is no stranger to the rigorous demands of professional basketball – she played over 300 games in the WNBL and has been a team Physiotherapist since the early 1990’s when she retired.
She returned from the WNBL hub late last year and we had a quick chat about her time in Queensland with the Melbourne Boomers.
